Wide Roots was formed in December 2019, with a mission to expand the audience for the artisanal wines of Europe, by exposing wine consumers to the great value still waiting to be discovered there. Since wine has been enjoyed for millennia, as the center of celebrating with friends and family, we seek to emphasize that aspect of wine in our lives and culture.

We began our journey as a direct importer of several Italian and Spanish wines, and have since focused on and built out our distribution as a leading supplier of Italian wines in Maryland and Washington, DC. By partnering with Volio Imports and Tuscany Wines Import, our book includes some of the top producers across Italy, who make benchmark examples of the great Italian wine grapes.
We also have a presence with our direct import wines, in Delaware through our partnership with Prime Beverage, and Florida through Tuscany Wines Import.
Chronology:
- December 2019 – Wide Roots, LLC formed in Maryland
- May 2020 – Federal Basic Import and Wholesale Permits issued
- December 2020 – Maryland state wholesale license issued; launched first two direct import product lines: Audarya (Sardinia) and Pietro Nera (Valtellina, Lombardy)
- June 2021 – launched DC distribution
- February 2022 – began partnership with Tuscany Wines Import, incorporating their producers into Maryland and DC wholesale business
- May 2022 – opened Delaware market for Wide Roots direct imports
- November 2022 – began selling Audarya wines in Florida through Tuscany Wines Import. Also upgraded Maryland wholesale license to include spirits, launching Evangelista Punch Abruzzo
- June 2023 – launched agave spirts line from Wolf Bevco, an importer of high quality small batch expressions from Mexico
- May 2024 – began partnership to be a wholesaler in MD and DC for Volio Imports, a leading national importer of Italian wines, adding their benchmark and iconic producers from Tuscany, Piedmont, and all over Italy to our wholesale book
- April 2026 – partnered with Consolidated Delivery Company, providing an end to end solution for our warehousing and delivery in Maryland and DC. Through this partnership, we are able to offer an unparalleled level of delivery service compared to other wine and spirits wholesalers
What does “Wide Roots” mean?
Wide Roots is a celebration of our shared humanity. It is a metaphor of a flower:
- The roots spread in different parts of the world, recognizing the customs and traditions of those lands
- The flower represents each of us, and how we are formed and nourished by the roots
- The combination represents our shared humanity; a love of family and friends that transcends culture and geography. We hope wine is at the center of this celebration.
